Bloody disaster

So,

I woke up yesterday with the intention to make my very 1st AG whiskey wash so cracked out the new Klarstein.

Worked my way through the temps... 1 hour 67 deg, 30 mins 69 deg, 10 mins 80 deg and 10 mins 85deg, sparge, cool and dump in the fermenter.

Hmmm, says i, what a large fermenter i have... lets do that again to make it worth while, i said. Here we go, 1 hour 67 deg, 30 mins 69 deg, ERROR E4!!!

So after some research and much faffing about trying the manufacturers repair suggestions, i't seems my thermal cutoff has shit itself.

Mid run, great.

Just waiting on a reply from the supplier now.

Sorrry to hear that mate.
My reading around is that they are a caring seller, and that you will eventually get sorted.
That is not much comfort when you have several Kgs of grain sitting in cooling water.
I will offer you one of these
I hope that you saved all of the packaging in case of return.
I think that I received a box, in a box, in a box.

Just to ask the daft question, I assume that you tried switching it off and on again?

Robert.

Tried all the usuals Robert, except taking it apart and i know better than to do that where warranties are concerned.

All the packaging was scrapped too after my beer run, but have told them this in the email.

We shall see...

Any cooler box will do the trick as a backup. That and a kettle/saucepan.
Boil a kettle of water first and lob this in the cooler to get it warmer up - drain that and lob the mash in there. A brew bag helps with the mess as do old net curtains. and red string

I know I am a bit out of my depth anf off topic but why the 80 & 85 steps?
"1 hour 67 deg, 30 mins 69 deg, 10 mins 80 deg and 10 mins 85deg, sparge, cool and dump in the fermenter."

I suspect that this is a slight variation on the method that I told Echo that I use in a whisky wash.
Well done for jumping in with a rescue method!

Robert.

It's only a temporary thing, if you want it fixed permanently, use fence wire :D :D

This is not a daft question - this cures 95% of all known problems (but not teenage pregnancy). Don’t believe me? Check out the signature!

Got a reply yesterday afternoon.

Very generic and unfriendly, with returns label attached. I've drawn them to the point in my initial email telling them that i no longer had the packaging and given the fragile yet bulky nature of the item, would they send the replacement first and i will then return in the same packaging.

Personally i don't think this is an unreasonable request as after all they still have my 200 nicker and i don't have a working item.

Expect generic from a company speaking in a non-native language.
You got a do-do this time, but they seem to be trying.
Remain polite in all corespondence, however hard that may be.
Falling out with the supplier will not get you where you want to be.
Just sayin'.

And don't take this next bit personal. but I did not ditch the packaging from my Klarstein, until I had used it twice, and expected it to work a third time.
They do put a sticker on the packaging advising you of this?

Sorry for your woes mate.
How they are resolved may rest in your corner.

Robert.

I would hammer the UK distributor - German companies can't spell customer service - IME its seems to be a sack-able offence. They do not give a flying shite once it has left them.

That seems to be a trend everything is moving towards Mash in our throw away society.
What ever happened to "The customer first" ? :(

Agreed. But that's not the issue here. The German companies are light years ahead

The UK distributor is the same company.
Does not make the language barrier any easier.
Renting an address in any country, to facilitate your buisiness from another is common?

Be brave of heart.
I have one of their machines.
Used around 60 times in 8 months.
I can't fault it.
Sorry that you got a bummer.
They will sort it.

Robert.
