I for one, nearly forgot about this.

Setting up this site has taken a significant amount of time & it is not without cost.

I think the guys have done an excellent job getting us up and running again. And I would like to secure it for the future.

We don't talk about money. So I won't mention that I've donated £20 towards the running costs. Which got me thinking?

How do members think we ought to donate - annually? As and when? Perhaps a subscription something? or should we seek sponsorship? We need to cover the bills went they arrive.

Totally agree and won't mention I donated the same amount.
You are right we ought to donate annually and if enough members don't do this go down the subscription route.

Admin have not yet covered the costs of setting up, despite me chipping in £20 also.
If you feel like hitting the donate button, DON'T tick the box saying you are getting services or goods,
it seems that way there are no Paypal fees applied.
I am hoping that we will need to move to a bigger server, as membership grows.
That will require more money.
On the old site, I used to make annual donations.
I considered the cash worthwhile for the help the site gave during my time there.
The size of your donation does not matter.
But, if you can, please do.
With enough donations, we can operate without adverts.
Getting off my soap-box now. ;)

Robert.

Edit, I should have stated that all Admin have access to the list of donations made, that way, no one of them can run away with any money!

You will see members ranks edited ( or concatenated if you prefer) with ‘Donated to SS’

We really appreciate and depend on your donations and are happy to show our appreciation in this little way.

The admins have grafted to get this alternative forum up and running, and 2 out of 3 have contributed - I didn’t, my wife won’t let me have money - but we have aspirations to make this a big place. We need all of you to help us achieve world domination.

Thanks to you all

Moss

Without going all soft and mushy,...
Moss has given so much to this new site in terms of experience and time, I can't thank him enough.
This new site was mostly one person's idea.
Mostly another's hard work.
Me? Along for the ride, and to help where I can.
Between us, we have a vision/hope/dream that it will fly.
You can help.
World domination may remain Moss's dream

I do feel somewhat guilty for the amount of work Moss has endured over the last month, when faced with the problem of stillsmart expiring I just thought I have a mate who does that so I'll ask him for advice, knowing what I know now I would not of asked him, he has given way too much already and really should be earning money for his family, young Jonny has been pulling double shifts down the black pudding mine just to put pies and stout on the table.
It's funny how things work out, raise a glass to Moss.
Some say he is one of the legendary and globaly famous 'Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5'..... And....some say the vodka he pours on his cornflakes for breakfast is homemade.....all we know is he is the MOSS.

Happy to have been able to help.

I don’t get to do this kind of stuff anywhere near as often as I would like to, the cause is worthy and it is good to help out friends.

I probably do more of the mod work than I should but I know the spamming will start at some point and I don’t want that to take over.

Anyway. Onwards

If just a few more peope donated to this site, we could trade in the Sinclair ZX81 that we currently rely upon to communicate with you all,( this old school tool has very low memory capablities), for a proper state of the art server.
OK, the new move would be a rental,-welcome to the modern age.
To own and run a server is well short of donations that we might ever hope to achieve.
But we can rent space on someone else's server.
This is where we are.
If you give a shit, and have a spare fiver, now is the time to say so.
Just don't click the Goods and Services box!
Thanks

Robert.

Thank you!
The size of donation is less important than making one.
This is a friendly forum, where people try to help each other.

Well I'm sorry it wasn't more, then I would be better off if I could have. I know how much server space is, I used to be a systems administrator before I gave up work to look after my mum. But 10 fivers is better than one twenty and mostly the site is here for my benefit rather than your's who have so much more experience than me or others in my position so it's the least we could be doing. I was one of the people who were unable to join the old site so am very grateful that the effort was made to get this forum up and running

This post alone makes my efforts worthwhile. I am sure @Maker & @Easydrinker will feel the same.

Thank you :D

Damn right I feel the same way.

And Christine is on the button with her comment of, "But 10 fivers is better than one twenty"
Small donations add up.
If this site site is worth even a couple of quid to a member, it all counts!
I for one, would like to see it continue without having to resort to advertisements and sponsorship.
But,it will continue.

Robert.

We have had more donations than I thought we would ever get - you really are a benevolent crowd.
You are making my job much easier with every penny, and I do thank you all.

We have decided to recognise donations by adding the legend ‘donated to ss’ to the rank of our generous members, but this is a manual operation. The problem with this is that when you use an email address different to the one you registered with, and you don’t comment on PayPal or the forum that you have donated, I have no idea who you are.

If I don’t know who you are, I can’t recognise your generosity.

Our subject matter can make privacy very important to you, and I understand this. Please, if you make a donation send me a PM with the email address you donated with and your username. I will make the changes to your rank and delete your PM.

Many thanks to you all

Maurice Moss

Thanks Christine. It's also nice to know the messaging is worth it.

I for one think it's nice to get some female members for a change. Will keep us in check.
