This started in the "Purple bread machine" thread....
But I thought it might get away.
I wonder how many of us don't just have cornflakes??

Awake this morning around 4ish as usual, so got stuck into making another loaf...had thoughts lately about a meat pie that I've read about from years back, that needs an update...working on having a go later today.
Yes, I also get that sense when getting up for work, so it usually ends up in an innovative brekkie, but this morning and a memory of one of those "Hairy Bikers" programmes, it was an alarm free 0500 wake up, which became an ad hoc build of a Spanish Tortilla i.e. cold leftover potatoes sliced, then some leftover onion that erindoors had started but left boxed in the fridge.
Onion gently fried off and removed from the pan, a layer of the sliced spud, then a sprinkle of seasoning (but with a tiny sprinkle of garlic powder), then the onions layered, followed by the rest of the spud. All drowned in beaten egg and then the whole pan into the oven for 20/30 minutes to set.
Turn out and can be eaten in wedges either hot or cold. Absolutely scrum
But I digress
Very restrained.. I apply garlic powder with a trowel

I have eggs and rice most mornings with leftovers. No leftovers.. It gets a good dose of chilli and garlic.

Next doors eldest is a rather "worthy" young woman who does a lot with a local kids (underprivileged) type thing (not sure if it's actually a registered charity or what). Anyway, she gets donations of shortcode and out of date stuff from one of the local supermarkets.
about a week or so ago, 10 pm on the Friday night, the knock on the door is her with a tray of shortcode "bread thins" and bagels, various veggies and some other bits and bobs - that weekend was "work out what needs just freezing and what needs cooking up first".
So yesterday mornings brekkie was homemade broccoli and stilton soup and a couple of toasted, buttered bagels. SHMBO isn't really a "soup person" (other than an amazing smoked haddock chowder she does), but it's a bloody useful way of using up this kind of stuff i.e. soups, but also curries and various relatively thick/dense dahl type dishes (into wraps, rolls and sandwiches).
Or you can make it in bulk for numerous portions that are frozen, but instead of using say canned beans, lentils or whatever, use the bulk dried ones that are infinitely cheaper in 1 to 10 kilo bags (same for decent rice and not that cheap old shit from the supermarket).......

Well that's easy. Do a twist on the rice as maybe like Caribbean "rice and peas" (not peas really, Jamaica does kidney beans and the other islands and mainland Central America do different beans etc for their own local twist on that.
Or you could do the rice as a pilaf for different flavourings etc. Lots of easy methods for that..........

You have my 1 million% agreement there. We buy rice, beans and many items by the sack or small sack.
Beans are soo much nicer too.
Stilton & brocoli is gagging to be quiche (know here as ponsey pizza)
... not soup. Don't get me wrong I like soup. But really

You can't beat what you find in your own fridge.

Basically what I just had i.e. frittata with mid-week leftover spuds and to make it balanced/healthy, a side of kimchi (made by me, but with chopped white cabbage as I prefer that to Napa/Chinese leaf)...........
Much nicer than a bowl of overpriced sweetcorn developed by an American nutter who thought "yoghurt enemas" were a good idea......

Meh! kippers are fine, but as a kid I could never get past all those annoying little bones.
Big improvement when I found smoked mackerel fillets.......

F-i-L is a porridge fan too. I don't mind it if it's been made with "gold top" or raw milk and golden syrup, just not every day.
Only cereal I'd ever eat every day, would be "Cinnamon Graham's" but I don't know if they still do them............

So, today I had three lonely rashers of bacon in the fridge which were cut up and fried, I then poured a beaten egg on them and made an omlette.
I used this to wrap some surplus Samosa filling.
The fidge was tidier, I was well fed.
Result!

Kippers and Marmalade, that's what my father-in-law recons.
So I took round a brace of loch Fyne Kippers a freshly baked
loafand a jar of Kiellers finest only to be told "Wrong sort of
Marmalade, need the one with the Gollywog on it!!"
So he just chickened out.

Not when they cause repeated application of Dr Heimlichs "manoeuvre" they're not...........
Hence my preference for the vastly superior smoked mackerel

Today it was 3 Frankfurters and a nuked onion in a Tortilla wrap, lashings of ketchup.
Ringing the changes.

I did forget to say that before I ever get to "breakfast", I have eaten 2 or 3 portions of fruit and some plain yoghurt.
My body is a temple, or I at least try to balance the effects of ethanol and BIR curry!

Bacon, egg, sausage, black pud, toms and toast for mopping up, washed down with earl grey. Breakfast of champions and heart attack victims.

As a much younger man, I used to go to the local veg. market cafe, at around 6am, five days a week after working a night shift, for a "full English" before going home.
Oh, and we used to walk in with bottles of champagne, a perk of working in a casino.
On nights off, out clubbing and then often getting 'locked in' various restaurants.
Surprised to still be here TBH.
