Racking off?

I normally rack off after using a clearing solution when the crud is settled usually about 24/36 hours, but noticed this morning while putting in the solution (never normally read instructions lol) that it says on the pack to rack off before adding the solution - what does everyone else do?

I didn\'t on the first wash, but have since and it is clearer. I could see the bottom of the container

I make the wash, then add some cheepo finings from wilco\'s. I never bother about the wash being totally clear - its not worth the hassle.

I got into the habit of racking off then adding the finings,now its just the norms for me,a bit clearer than how i used to do it.

I dont rack off, I am just careful when emptying into 5 litre jugs to put in the still.

I will run about 200ml into a jug to remove the sediment thats in the tap then collect the rest 5 litres at a time to put into the still.

Works for me.

If you place a wooden spoon under the container where the tap is all the sediment will angle back away from the tap due to the angle of the container.

Doing that would limit the amount you could collect.

I leave it flat and am able to drain as much as possible.

My container hasn\'t a tap so will have to use a plastic pipe to syphon

Do yourself a favor and install a tap, its so much easier.

I racked off this morning and ran the still for the second time got got 3.5 litres all but a ml. Cut it and got 7.5 litre. and bottled it. I dont have a test tube to measure the percentage, so do it in the bucket but dont know if it is accurate enough doing it that way. AT 7.5 It was registering 40%. Will need to get a testube soon as. Did not put it through the Z filter as it does my head in.Tried it and find it leaks like a sieve no matter how tight you make it. The Carbon is messy and I cant wash it through without getting shit everywhere. Will make my Christmass an Essencia or the EZ. Cheers guys all tip welcome.

The idea of placing the spoon under is to keep the sediment away from the tap. Once you are draining it off you remove the spoon to get it back flat and drain. Works for me
