Still Smart archive searching
There is so much good info on the Still Smart Archive, but now I can't use the search functions..
Is there anyway the search function can be made to work?

Re: Still Smart archive searching
I did notice, before Still Smart went redundant, that using the search button from our archive would take me back to the site, in real time.

Re: Still Smart archive searching
It would seem that while our archive link to Still Smart works, since Jimmy closed the site down, the search button does not.
And will not, ever again
All the info is still there, it will just take longer to find.
When I equate this to my efforts of finding distilling advice, back in the pre-interweb days, it really is Small Potatoes.
I used to spend hours in libraries.
You can now do this from the comfort of home.
Chill, not everything is instant.

Re: Still Smart archive searching
It may be possible to search the archives using the advanced search option on Google.
Try typing in your search term then a space then
site:Still smarter.co.uk
Eg, to search for fast fermenting vodka try
Ffv site:Still smarter.co.uk
Good luck!

Without wishing to sound at all patronising.
Shit, if you have found a way to make this work, then I love you, and want to have your babies!
I will have to come back to this, as I am flagging and need sleep, I am failing fast.
If there was a safe emogi for internet love, consider it sent.

Im sure Jenny is on a winner, but can't remember the details.
I know that's how they do it on the other obnoxious stilling forum where any comment or question is unwelcome until you have read every thread and have 200 years experience.
Edit : I mean other distilling forum (that is obnoxious, unlike this one), not other obnoxious forum (about home distilling) as the above could read.

Re: Still Smart archive searching
Good Morning all and especially to Jenny.
Google advanced search will indeed search the Still Smart archive hosted on Still Smarter.
It is a little more work, but only a little.
For example, to search for Cachaca, put this in the Google search bar:
cachaca site:Stillsmarter.co.uk
Everybody buy that girl a drink!

Re: Still Smart archive searching
Thanks JennysGin for a great solution. I was trying to find a bit of info and had trawled around to no avail. Searched via google and it popped up in seconds.

Re: Still Smart archive searching
Erm, can someone please take the time to explain this to me? I am thinking of putting a landing page between the forum and the archive. It would be sensible to add instructions, but I need to understand this first.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Re: Still Smart archive searching
To search the archive
Open google
In the search bar type, subject searched for space site colon stillsmarter.co.uk
But as below, with subject of choice.
cachaca site:Stillsmarter.co.uk.
Whisky site:Stillsmarter.co.uk.
etc.
You have to make stillsmarter joined up or it won't work.
I am sure you can find a better way of describing it

Re: Still Smart archive searching
Well f**k me sideways with the rough end of a pineapple..........
Well done to all that have worked this out. Read this a few times in the last few weeks and been mulling over the idea of somehow scraping the text into the specific titles per thread to recreate it as a text per thread.
Was thinking stuff like it didn't matter about the original author(s), because it's the text that's important (the original author could pipe up, should someone have a question - if they're here of course).
But hey ho, solved and searchable, so still available and usable etc.
Top marks to all who've worked it out using the existing tools that are available.......

Re: Still Smart archive searching
Just given this searching a whiz.,for the first time in awhile. It mostly seems to work.
A few exceptions, which I put down to moving hosts and servers.
It is mostly all still there.
Ploughing through the archive click by click always seems to work.
Please feel free to invest your time and energy dragging stuff over to our new homebase,if you think it worthwhile.
