Re: Where I am today
I would think you are safer and better off running two 25 or 30 litre loads.

Re: Where I am today
It went ok to be honest, collected 12 litres, powered off, popped a fill port off, syphoned the rest in, added some more conditioner, port back on, power back on and we are running again. Head temp is down three degrees so I guess I've got one demijohn left to collect.
There is a reasonable amount of head space over the fill port so I figure I'll be aiming for 45 litres in future.

Re: Where I am today
Finished off - did the measurements (with a calibrated bucket... lol) and I must have had 55 or 56 litres of wash - the fill port on the boiler is just over the 45 litre mark and 50 litres is just under the neck of the boiler. I'm not going to run 50 litres but at least I know now just to aim for fermenting 46 litres (and leave a litre of gunk behind in the fermenter)
Good run though - 4 gallons of low wines to run through the column this weekend.

Most of the time you are ok with sugar heads, but fruit
brandies and rum molasses can foam and be a real
bastard. Always safety first and for once I am being
serious, I have had a still puke and boiling hot sticky
wash being fired all over the shop is not great.

Re: Where I am today
Many years ago, when I was much younger and more foolish
I had the top blow off the boiler to my still.
The wash blew straight out and up, like 'Old Faithful', hit the ceiling and showered down on me and everything in the kitchen.
I only did it the once, better never to at all!
Robert.

After looking up how to use my water distiller to make alcohol several weeks ago, and thanks greatly to this forum and it's members. Today I am currently at the stage of quaffing my first and very acceptable microwaved, JD chip aged, faux bourbon and coke.

Well done sponge. Can I ask which water destiller? Planning to publish a white list.
To Gin-finity and beyond !
Re: Where I am today
Thank you for the replies and encouragement everyone.
It's one of the white 750w distillers. Cost around £40 new at the time from ebay.
It's a non-branded jobbie Mash. I bought it several years ago for an extraction project. Served it's purpose at the time, but ended up in the bottom of a cupboard for at least 3 years.Mash wrote: Fri May 15, 2020 7:45 am Well done sponge. Can I ask which water destiller? Re: Where I am today
this week we emptied my step mums flat into my garage it is now floor to ceiling in old lady crap, now having difficulty getting to booze and gardening stuff, so back to working in kitchen. My son is absolutely feckin epic has ordered me a T500 (guess he got sick of my envy whining) so have started 3 washes so far in preparation - am so excited ~ #newtoy - promise to look through archive before bombarding you guys with questions. So today I am refusing to get out of bed, laptop, audio book, online poker, apricot brandy at 11 am, regular naps, and the lad to boss around, taking staying at home one step further, have a blissful sunday
am pickled tink to yeet mou.....

Re: Where I am today
Oh what fun you can have now Jacquie but the AS will still be used for Gin, bet ya.
Some sort of water flow regulator and a power controller on your list.
Then The Copper Ware, it turns your column into a pot. You can do this by taking
the packing out of your column. This is a pain.

I am reasonably sure Sponge has read it. I have seen a 750W uncontrolled... You really would struggle to get to a drinkable product.gaza the instructor wrote: Fri May 15, 2020 8:31 pm Has/does he need to do your trick with a 750w, Mash.

Jacquie - strike while the iron is hot. Ask him to make you a Vino Tinto stripper for it!

Copperware https://www.lovebrewing.co.uk/combined- ... -and-dome/
Water control https://www.lovebrewing.co.uk/t500-wate ... regulator/
Power controller https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220V-4000W-V ... 0005.m1851
There are cheaper ways but this is plug and play and apart for the last one,
Still Spirits stuff is very good but expensive.
P.S.
The Water Flow Controller is only used on the Reflux Column.
I am using The Copperware and my Power Controller ATM and it is doing a fine job of Rum making.
