Cocktails etc.....
Impressive to see and read mention of them. Personally, I'm mostly too tight and lazy to splash out on all the extra nonsense needed.
Gaza's mention of pinacoladas in the "Kraken clone" thread etc prompted some memories.....
When I ordered the couple of Kraken clone essences to try, I also included some of the Advocaat clone mix (and cream base), cos as kids when doing the semi-annual "relly visits" we'd often be given a "Snowball" so as not to be (or feel) left out.
So if anyonest got any suggestions (got some Tequila essences for Margarita, but not had one of those since ChilΓ© on the way back from "down South" early 90's - and then it was only because the bloke in the pedalo ice-cream cart sold them freshly mixed on the beach)........

Good man give it a go life is to short etc.
My Rum experiments carry on, it all started because of cheap
Golden Syrup and I mean real cheap Β£8 for 7.5kg. They had
about 20 tubs so I boughtthe lot along with loads of Dema Sugar
so cheap quality Rum. Therefore spare for cocktails.
Pina Colada, Caperinia and Mohitoes, Sorry about spelling the
motherof all hang overs is kicking in. I was testing with my bro
till 3 this morn.
Here we go again.

Re: Cocktails etc.....
See I don't have the time or space (or inclination) to do any real experiments etc.
It's more of understanding a few different flavours and combos....
I can look up the names to see if they sound like I'd like to try them.....
But I won't be able to try too many, but given the variation of different rum essences that are available, it's got to be a good place to start..........

Mojitos are lovely for the summer time
Rum (usually white but I reckon you could experiment!)
Mint
Lime
Sugar syrup
Soda water
All smooshed up with lots of ice - very refreshing

Re: Cocktails etc.....
I have infused a few light Rums 'cause I can.
Pineapple and mango spiced. Very sweet drop of soda lots fresh fruit nice.
White rum with a drop of Maple syrup, makes lovely Mojitos (Cheers for spelling lesson Jenny)
Banana and Date Rum with Manuka Honey. Lots of Ice and Soda(very sickly)
Coffee, Hazelnut, Raisin and date plus vanilla pods. Yet to be tried
Toasted cocoa nibs, Raisins Coffee beans and aged on USA med toast 10g per ltr. 3 months time.
Just a few of my little experiments, have done well writing this ,bro just gone been hard at it
testing all afternoon over a hot bbq. Tis a tough job but I fought off all the other volenteers
bravely. Roll on tomorrow
No work for me in the foreseeable future, and Mum's estate
is now all dealt with. Strange thing fate is it not. All settled on the 7th Anniversary of my Dad's
passing.

Re: Cocktails etc.....
I like 'girly' advocaat.
My recipe should be found residing in the recipe section.
And from there snowballs abound.
Going off at a tangent, Pimms no.3, only so far ever made with essence, is a taste of summer, even without Tennis.
Robert.

Some lovely sounding ideas there
but it's early so now I'm fighting the subconscious "nah! too much hassle" idea............

Like all things gaza, taste/flavour preference is relative.gaza the instructor wrote: Sat Jun 06, 2020 3:10 pm I don't like that stuff Mr.P but crack on buddie go wild and try the Swiss

All those cream liqueur things are nice tasting but I certainly wouldn't want to drink em all the time.
Hell, I only bought my first air still all those years ago, as I found (by lucky accident) that I have expensive tastes, that I can't afford normally (Armagnac, St Emillion, etc), so if some of the novelty mixes like this taste good, then WTF, once in a while

Yes know what you mean. That cream one is not
as creamy its a bit more grown up, I think thats
why I like it, have tried all the others, but that
one is different.
It is quite incredible now, the amount, the quality
and the price of all these S.S. essences and not
just them either there are loads of different
company's after your business. Some of the
Polish ones are really cheap. Flavoured Vodka is
their thing.

Re: Cocktails etc.....
see, I've got a couple of the flavoured vodka ones (including the discontinued "Cherimoya" flavouring), but not tried the apple, but that's more about last time I got very, very drunk on the Harwich/Hook Van Holland ferry on the German stuff called "Apfelkorn". Only fortified wine sort of strength but drink 2 litres and damn it was good that we had to book a cabin for the overnight trip...........
Now I'm thinking that I'd better check in my "stash" cupboard to see which vodka flavours I've got in there. I'm sure I have a vanilla and a lemon one, but not sure what else (they've been in there for a long time).
Pretty sure that there's a couple of different Tequilla flavours too - for when I get my finger out for some Tequilla sunrises (suppose I'd better get some grenadine as well)..........

Still spirits Tequilla is nice. Have you tried their Grenadine?

Mr P a simple infusion.
One punnet of Raspberries 350G or so, put em in a jar and smash em up a bit.
Zest and juice a lime, add it. one ltr your best neutral (40 or 45%), seal it.
Shake every time you pass for 5 days filter add sugar to taste, drink and fall over.

If we're talking cocktails, I could live off the boulevardier. Equal parts bourbon, Campari and red vermouth, couple of ice cubes, beautiful. If only I could make the Campari and vermouth I'd save a fortune!

Coming up on the season to immerse anything that grows in neutral and try it!

Gaza, I've seen a dry vermouth essence, but never a sweet vermouth one. Saying that I'd never seen the campari, guess I'll need to see if I can get it closer to home or pay some great postage
Thanks for the tip

Gaza's link seems to be an Aussie one, yet it appears that the Campari clone is Presitge brand - which suggests it's one of Gert Strands.DorsetScott wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:54 am Gaza, I've seen a dry vermouth essence, but never a sweet vermouth one. I find that they're either "bleargh" or they're bloody brilliant. But usually worth a punt as they usually make up as a wine bottle full i.e. 750ml.
Not found anywhere that seems to stock the "full" range though, plus they seem to drop them if they're not selling well (my fave "cherimoya vodka" is a case in point)........

I've currently only found it in Creative Winemaking but at nearly 6 quid postage it's not worth it unless I'm stocking up on essencesphantom wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 4:48 amGaza's link seems to be an Aussie one, yet it appears that the Campari clone is Presitge brand - which suggests it's one of Gert Strands.DorsetScott wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:54 am Gaza, I've seen a dry vermouth essence, but never a sweet vermouth one. Re: Cocktails etc.....
Even in my younger and poorer days, cocktails were a great thing to mix and share with a companion.
You could start with a Sloe Screw, add more bottles to your inventory, and progress to a Sloe, Comfortable Screw against the Wall.
Then you were off and running, every new bottle purchased adding to the possible menu.
Happy daze!
Robert.

Worth checking even the smaller HBS ads that might pop up Scott, cos sometimes it's them that have them from when they did their stock up or whether you can locate the importer to find out what they list and a local stockist etc.............DorsetScott wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 10:34 am I've currently only found it in Creative Winemaking but at nearly 6 quid postage it's not worth it unless I'm stocking up on essences
