Strip run on Sat.....

Post by Icefever »

.....fingers crossed that is. I've been out in the garage repairing my old Liebig, it got damaged when we moved Feb 19. The golden syrup wash has been finished for a couple of weeks now, so that's being run this Sat.

I'll have to put my stilling head on for this run, it must be 2 years or so since my last run....sound like I should be in a small box talking through a grill to either Robert or Mash.....

If this rain is like it tomorrow I may go for it then, got a couple of small jobs to do first thing.

It went ok, nothing to shout about, as Robert said...it's like riding a bike....now I have to find time for the spirit run.

I now have an empty bucket, I'm mulling over a recipe idea that lurking at the rear of the grey matter.

I've got around 45 litres of rhubarb wine...(which I need to take a look at this week)...now I could throw one of the buckets into the still for whatever comes out??.

Thinking it through thou making the wine is a lot longer process, as those that make wine will know. Now, what about a wash with rhubarb chopped up in it??? The reason for thinking this is our rhubarb patch is having a 2nd growing period...I cut out any seed heads early on a few months back and it's gone off like a steam train.

I have a load of all-new barb standing proud as punch...now thinking back to this recipe...a wash is over a lot quicker than any wine...so I'm thinking of a sugar wash..maybe use what Jaggery I have leftover. Then add maybe a couple of kgs of chopped barb???. When finished treat it like any other wash??

Looking like it has legs...that is unless someone has tried it and it's not worth it...but I've seen videos where folks throw all sorts of fruit into a wash.

Ice, this sounds like the sort of thing that anyone might do.
A little experimentation.

I don't see a problem with what you have proposed for a wash.
'Barb is probably as good as Kale. lentil, nettle and Grannies bath water as a nutrient. :)
Are you proposing the Rhubarb as nutrient or flavour?
I suspect that you would need to big up the quantity for any flavour in a pot distillation.
Probably easier to steep a spirit for a Rhubarb flavoured product.

I'm hoping for a little of both, nutrient & flavour? it will be via a pot, but your idea of steeping at the end would be well worth a try....watch this space as they say.

It will work as a nutrient. I doubt you will get any flavour.

+ one steeping.

Gotta spend the rest of the day in a hair shirt, penance for agreeing with Robert. lol.
