poxy weather.......
I know it's autumn, but I wish the bloody weather would make it's mind up.
Damned annoying to have to keep the cab heater on furnace mode to try and stop the bloody windows fogging up when I get back in soaked..........

Re: poxy weather.......
Feck the ducks. While I am down sarf I thought I'd call in at Goodwood as I was passing. There was a track day on even though it was pissing down. Waited for a while for the run what you brung lads to get waved on track and was really looking forward to listening to some nice motors go down the straight on full chat. Then the red flag came out, someone had binned it halfway round. The sausage sarni and coffee in the cafe didn't make up for it but were very good.

I keep telling myself that this rain is good, it means the outside air has no Covid, all washed to the ground.

There was alsorts lined up for the trackday Gaza. An AC Cobra sounded especially raucous and looked mint. It set off like a scalded cat
. It's just a shame someone got a bit too enthusiastic on the outlap and I didn't get to listen to the motors properly . Grip was minimal tho I can see how it would be easy to lose it.

Re: poxy weather.......
Grip is very minimal in a Cobra on a dry road. About 40 years ago,
my dear old pop owned a 289 ci mark 3 and he lent it to me took
the now wife to Arundel Castle in it. He owned it for two years
just to get it out of his system replaced with a Porsche 928 s4.
AC cars was in Thames Ditton ,about 3 miles from us and Dad's
best mate worked in the management there. As a kid I was sat in
the cars in the showroom. Sadly their most popular car was an
invalid carriage with a small and smelly 2 stroke in it.
Long live the Cobra one of the sexiest and fastest ever built.

Re: poxy weather.......
My brother used to drive a very modified Westfield .
It had previously been in a crash and had subsequently been remodelled to fit in a 3.5 litre V8 out of a TVR.
It was a monster, but was hard to keep on the tarmac in the dry. In hot dry weather on the track it was superb - but expose it to any sort of moisture and it was a disaster.

Am or should I say was very much into TVR's. Owned two one was
a 390SE which was a wedge with(like yours) Rover derived V8. The
other a Tuscan speed six. That was made by the devil to kill man.
An awesome widow maker, over 300 BHP and 190 m.p.h.
Neither were worth taking out in the wet, unless on your own and
you like going sideways.

Re: poxy weather.......
My favourite AC Cobra story is from the 1960's when the M1 was partially built, and had NO SPEED LIMIT.
Someone brought a race tuned one over from Le Mans, and clocked 180 Mph on it.
Those were the days.

Re: poxy weather.......
Meh! car nostalgia is fine, but yesterday was as bad as Wednesday, but the wind was worse as the works vehicle was getting blown around badly, even creeping down a hill fully freighted.
The "liars" said it should be milder, warmer and with less of the wet stuff, but I'll wait and see later on........

Very nearly bought an AC Cobra, but settled on a Lotus 7, with the 2.8 capri engine. Pulled like a train
fast too.

My grey cells are dying faster than they communicate these days.
I have jut spent 10 minutes trying to remember quite which Lancia I bought 40 years ago.
But when I called my insurance broker, via landline, (as we did then) for a policy quote, she called me back .
'Have you actually bought the car?'
'I can only find you a 3 month polcy!'
So, 3 months rolled on, and on,and on, and then I drove it into an immoveable object.
Shit happens.
Robert.

Re: poxy weather.......
My late father was a mechanic for many years. I have vivid memories from 70's/80's with pretty much all Italian marques being very well engineered, but with woefully poor metal (and finishes) for bodywork.
Hell it's no different from Skoda. Until VW got money in there, they were one of the laughing stock brands. While today they have a very sound, quality reputation.........

I actually had three Alfasuds!
I loved them until they fell apart.
A garage set one on fire trying to weld the chassis, which was filled with foam.

I knew a young lady once that rode a Ducati. She was clocked on a runway at over 160 mph - but she did have some avpin mixed into her fuel tank. She was a very adventurous young lady!!!
Lot of fun though.

My bro was European Ultimate Street Bike drag champion twice over.
On his way to his second, he set a new record 8.1 seconds at 186 m.p.h.
for a standing start quarter on a blown Suzuki 1200cc and 390bhp..

Could say that bro is mainly drag, me more circuit but now more drag.
Anyone who says its just straight line, has not piloted a proper drag car
I mean something angry say 1300bhp then provoke it and try to keep it
in a straight line.

Re: poxy weather.......
I spent 8 months as the Commander of a Green Goddess fire engine. That same young lady I mentioned previously was my driver.
Even in perfectly dry conditions that fire engine was a PITA, and very difficult to keep in a straight line.
It's primary role was never really supposed to be a fire engine - it was intended to be an off road mobile pumping station for providing emergency water supplies. It functioned OK as a fire engine, but speed and road holding with an unbaffled water tank, were not great.
