There are loads of pheasant about all of a sudden. My favourite thing to eat, I absolutely 💘 it. I seal the meat and cook slowly in a casserole with thick onion and sage gravy.
Whilst I was being chauffeured around down sarf we passed a fesh roadkill deer. I suggested that we get it in the boot and my daughter freaked out and got abusive (she gets that from her mum). Whats wrong with the younger generation eh. They don't know they're born.

They just don't have any of the ancient ways of our ancient forefathers.
Take road kill for example. The ancient ones would know good dear from
bad dear, first it is a little more expesive ie:- two Dear really or is that
my sons name. And secondly not fit to eat is it is going black thin and
shiny, showing signs of Pirelli P Zero or excessive tread depth. This means
it has been run over many times.
Are these the skills you mean Buffalobob ??

Spot on Gaza :D . This one was intact and in prime nick at the side of the road unflattened and begging to go into a freezer. My sprogs have always been reluctant to eat anything that doesn't come wrapped in plastic from a supermarket. If I brought anything in for the table with feathers/fur or scales, and a head they used to back off.

My neighbours just dropped off (15 mins ago) a very clean kill, road kill Hare.
They found it while taking a late walk, ahead of the shit weather due for the next couple of days.
They brought it for my (once feral) cat, the only way to worm him is to bury the pill in his favourite food, which he literally wolfs down.
And fave food is rabbit or hare.
I think the saddle will be reserved for myself.

I am certainly a road cleaner. I have gralloch kit in the truck.

Why waste it? Why waste anything? I think we have lost touch with our inner animal and have become dependent on the state. Losing life skills and life knowledge along the way.

Todays gales FCUK'd my polytunnel.
After much swearing managed to get the polythene folded down and secured on one side.
If we get a good day, I think it is fixable.
The hard part is now keeping the chucks out until then.
It has some netting temporarily fixed in place, but that is not very tall.
Ho hum.

Know the feeling. Saw an excellent, fresh Roe deer last week.

Problem for me is usually that the useless buggers manage to get clouted where there's no chance in hell to stop an artic. Otherwise it's easy to have a carcass hanging from the back of the cab (can wash off any "juice" later at yard with steam washer)........

As for the kids, it's us who've spoiled the ungrateful little swines with the convenience of supermarkets.

I used to drive a sludge tanker, and when it was busy the boss would rent in a tractor and tank. I'd move whatever at night, so it was a doddle to couple the tank for offload, then rather than pump the load off, I'd just vent the tank and sit on top shooting the rabbits with my brother's pellet gun (erindoors would go up the wall when she came down to find me gutting bunnies at 06 buffalo in the morning - but the rabbit tasted great 😋😋😋).....

I have lost count of the deer bodies driven past on the edge of motorways.
I would like to think that they don't go to waste

I have a mate who until recently used to load guns for Rodney Richpig on shoots. I asked him to grab a couple when he could. He would often bring me half a dozen pheasants or grouse. Sadly those days have gone, he reckons he's too old to lug guns and ammo through Heather on the moors now he's 70 😢, I keep telling him he's wrong but he's not having it

I think they might be cousins 🤔. Rodney Richpig was a character out of the Furry Freak Brothers comic books, around in the early 70's.

I well remember playing the game 'Fed's and Heads' in around 1974.
A game given away, well, cut out from, one of these comics.
The game seemed to be based upon scoring weed without being caught.
Fat Freddy was a good source, IIRC....
