Nice one mate.

We have been doing someting similar the last few years.
Our lights are fixed near the roof, over the perches, no drum.
And it does keep us in fresh eggs through the winter, instead of the barren winters of times past.
I do have to clean out and replenish the indoor feeder over the next few days, as a light coming on at 3am. and the automatic (light sensitive) door not rising until currently almost 7 o clock leads to hungry chooks!
Today they were all roosting by 4.30pm, 20 minutes before the door came down.
Different daylight times may apply.

"Different daylight times may apply" - indeed. They are in bed by 4pm

The VSD automatic door is brilliant - simple and rebuildable, wouldn't be without it now. Cost a fortune at the time. But is it is not internet connected...... so a complete useless ludite in todays world. Don't know if you can still get them.

As we are coming into winter and avian flu restrictions, I thought I would bounce this again.

I now have a range of these lights. Any hdpe container seems to work as a good diffuser. 1 gallon cans and shampoo bottles make a "brilliant light" 💡

We had a mini cull alongside a lock down.
All the remaaining birds should be in laying prime.
Just sorry that the regs. don't allow them a little more space.

I am thinking about doing some chicks again if I can get live eggs locally or a cock bird.

We have around two dozen 'new' hens,
way too many.

We have 8 working ladies and get 5 eggs a day. Which is about right for us. Would like 6 more for spring time. Richer winter ration and lights help.

That pulverizer myles and I discussed makes brilliant feed.

I always felt happy with Layers Pellets and total free range.
This week I have been picking the crappy slug eaten leaves of brassicas to give the girls a boost.
