Thanks to Still Smarter members.

Post by NigelMG »

I have done it, I have with a lot of help from you guy's, produced an excellent gin.

Kale wash. Stripped and spirit run with my home build still. Result after proofing about 3.5 ltrs 40% abv neutral.

I have got to know my still pretty well. During the spirit run, It starts dripping at 150f rising slowly over 450ml then holds a very steady temp 174f during hearts, about 1.3ltr 90%, then temp starts rising slowly through the tails after, for about 750ml. Then virtually stalls. 1.3ltr 90% result.

40% neutral filtered in home made carbon filter. ( for the first time I tasted nothing and smooth as it gets ).

1 ltr 40% 1 ltr water. In the sputnik 15g Juniper, 7g coriander, 1.5g cassia, 0.5g ginger, good pinch of nutmeg, 5g zest of sweet orange.
Through the AirStill = 900ml @ 40%abv really smooth really tasty grog.

A milestone in my life 25/05/2021 distilled a well worthy spirit. ( and got drunk on it )
Loads and loads of thanks to the many people who have helped me :D

Next wash 3 days in.
Cheers
Nige.

Oh that's great news Nige! So glad you enjoyed your own brew. Gives me hope for my first gin run today. I don't even like gin but I'm told I will most likely enjoy my own so fingers crossed I'm also drunk tonight 🍻

Ooo Eck !!!
I can feel the pressure rising now for me to get my first run done. Dextrose arriving today by all accounts but it will be up at work so won't get access to it until I get back off holiday next week.

Glad to hear it all went successfully, here's to the next one.
