First weekend sailing and gin test.

Post by NigelMG »

I made 3 bottles of gin, in one of the bottles I had soaked half an orange peel in the spirit overnight before distilling. The result was a tasty gin with a nice orange smell and not too strong orange flavour. so 3 bottles 2 flavours.

We sailed to Harwich Saturday meeting up with a couple of other boats, a sunny Sunday evening slightly nervous I got the 3 bottles of gin out, compliments from everyone were very quick coming, the gin was being enjoyed by everyone. A great pontoon gin party going on

I woke up in bed onboard my yacht 7am Monday morning not knowing how I got there, I do not remember leaving the party or getting on my boat, not a drop of gin left in the bottles, no headache but a drowsy hangover that lasted the day sail home

My gin was a big success with our friends, the first time we have sailed or even seen our friends in 9 months this could not have turned out better.
We had set sail 3 am Saturday morning, the sunrise was probably the best sunrise I have seen in 40 years sailing, very clear on the horizon, I just happened to be looking at the exact spot on the horizon when the first pinprick of sun showed above it.

The sail home was hard work due to the previous nights alcohol consumption but I managed to set and fly the spinnaker all the way.

I did drink far too much but did not notice until morning  I will not be drinking that amount again  I'm sure I have said that before, but I mean it this time.

Drink sensibly.

Happy brewing
