There is a trend for zero alc rated gins.
A quick Google will find a few.
Which got me thinking..
How hard can it be to make one. These buggers are the same price as the alcoholic versions
First idea. Perhaps steep the bots in boiling water and then stain. (like making tea)
Better... with a hi-power water distiller, could we use just tap water and a sputnik?
Does the process need alcohol to extract the bot oils and flavours?
Anyone got any ideas / previous / recipes?

What in the name of all that's drinkable would you want to
do that for??

Well as far as I'm aware, it's had it's alcohol removed with some sort of industrial centrifuge - I see ads from Alfa-Laval sometimes, and their nice, smallest one is a bargain at about 4 grand...........

Make an alcohol version and lose the alcohol.
Airing, slowly heating?
Can't be too hard.

Normally it's done by making your favorite gin, then redistilling it with in a high efficiency column still to remove the ethanol. What's left in the boiler is your non alcohol gin.

Thanks guys. There is some ideas there, that I really had not considered.
I was not thinking of using alcohol at all, but make the gin and then reduce makes sense.
If there is a little bit of alc left it does not matter.
Might try a super concentration juniper extract using a nuke method... Then aquarium stone forced airing?

This was too easy to make.
Still spirits gin essence mixed with water only. Louches BUT works like a charm.
Tastes odd in the bottle, but does come together with mixing with tonic in the glass.

Does it lose the cloudiness?
Or can you simply squeeze some lemon and ignore it?

Loses it in the glass.
Stunning. The new still spirits label is also marked in 15ml increments (1 bottle).
Just to easy.

I keep reading this thread and still end up with the same questions i.e. what's the point?
Cos I still can't think of any sensible reason why. All the justification falls apart when pressed or fully examined.
The whole point of alcoholic beverages, is that they are "mind altering" and as individuals, it's possible that it affects us each, in a different way. Some get mellow, some get stormy, some get......... whatever
Oh, and even when we fixate on one or two types, your taste preference can change.

As I said at the beginning of the thread Mr P. I am on a month long
Alcohol ban, to help me sleep, and if I go to the Pub it's Coke Zero.

Sure, you have a specific reason. I'm thinking on a general basis.
Just that I can't see or follow the idea for one of the big boys to sell commercially.

The commercial reason is simple. Exactly the same as vegetarian sausages or vegetarian chicken steaks.
Its also a money spinner.... No tax, but the price is not that fruit juices.
Personally there could be many reasons, reducing alcohol / driving / another choice for friends / weight loss / medication.
I didn't fully understand it until I started dabbling.

Alcohol free version drinks have never appealed to me.
If you don't want alcohol, have a cup of tea or an OJ.

Doing it from scratch, some of the flavours are solvent extracted. You would really need to extract them with ethanol and then re-distill.
This is the process used for anato also. It is extracted with ethanol but then distilled to capture the ethanol for further use. The product is what is left in the boiler.
