I forgot how good it is.

Is now a good time to mention my razor collection?

DE's I've got:
Gillette Superspeed blue, silver, and red flare tips
Gillette 195 adjustable 'fatboy'
Gillette slim adjustable
Gillette black beauty long handle (this is my birth year/quarter razor)
Gillette black tip Superspeed

Straights I've got:
Dubl Duck Goldedge
Kropp
Wade and Butcher Special
Dovo faux tortoiseshell

The DE's are all mid 50's except for the black beauty, the straights are mostly early 1900 except for the Dovo which is modern. I've also got loads of 50's-ish brushes that I've re-knotted. Had LOADS of vintage Gillettes including a psycho with the original key but I paid little for it and prices went silly for them so I sold it on.

Arko is great, though a lot of people say it smells like urinal cakes. Personally I don't go sniffing urinals to compare and I like it anyway. Along with Tabac its a fav of mine.

Certainly got the bug a few years ago. I have an antique Gillette traveller. Fantastic.

Everyday I use a Edwin Jagger head on an Above the Tie handle, because I shave in the shower and need the extra grip.

No badgers here, soap to face and lather with hand. What's that... "Heathen" I here you cry

If it works, it works, I got a bit bored of the razor, brush, and soap snobbery so just do my own thing. Must admit though, I do like using a scuttle for warm lather but it is a bit of a faff. Stirling Barber Shop is a great soap performance and scent wise and is what I'm on at the moment, if you haven't tried it it's well worth checking out.

No, but that’s nothing a cheesegrater won’t solve.

It's usually a bar of soap, or tesco cheap and nasty foam, if I am feeling flush.
Followed by a plastic Wilkinson sword plastic self-clening twin blade, and toothpick, to aid the cleaning.
I shave every 5 or 7 days.
2nd swipe is generally with a triple blade razor.
2nd razor can last for months, first one only a few weeks
I own a semi decent King's, extra hollow flat ground cut throat, which would suit my shaving regime, but a departing ex. took my horse hide shaving strop with her.
who knows why.

@Mash.....When we started the original post on wet shaving you sent me I think 6 blades on a card to try. I used most of them, when we moved the card with a couple left on went AWOL, the other week it appeared as from nowhere, I decided to have a shave today and trim the old goatee.

I popped the last blade on the card into the razor, soaped up and started to shave, WOW it was the best shave I've had in many a moon, turns out it's a Perma Sharp, just had a look online and they are available.... cheers dude...it's taken maybe 4 or 5 years but I got there.

How have we de-evolved, in such a short time, 200 years, or so, from just about all men, (and women, Herring gutters spring to mind), knowing how to hone a blade, to todays sorry state?
Does any one else remember the guy on a bike, with a stone, for mobile knife sharpening?

More like battery hens everyday. I used to think it was just a problem in cities .... But not sure it isn't endemic. Lifeskills are dissappearing fast. I wonder what the percentage of people who could thrive on a desert island is?

I quite enjoy honing my blades, can't beat the feeling of putting a fresh edge on old steel.

I think a lot of it is due to the throw-away society attitude and the way people expect things 'NOW NOW NOW'. I'm surprised at how people not a great deal yonuger than me have little to no interest in learning something that takes time to become proficient at - especially if there is no financial gain to it, and even then some of the people I've worked with recently have wanted their hand holding doing even the simplest of tasks.
