I use it for cleaning my Brewzilla and demijohns when they've got stuff stuck to them.
Fill it up with water and leave it to slowly fizz and get rid of all the gunk.

Thanks. That's Ed zackery what I wanted it for. I have a few beer bottles with a slight inner deposit. Something like very mild limescale. Does it also need scrubbing or is it entirely a chemical action?

What's the ratio - tablespoon per litre?

No scrubbing required. I remember I started using it when I got a Fermzilla which is a plastic pressure fermentation vessel. I'd read a few things about not scrubbing it so that you don't leave micro scratches etc which give infections a place to grow (don't know how realistic that is but better safe than sorry).

Dosage wise I use a tablespoon per 5 litres which seems to do the job, although if it's really stubborn deposits I double that. Add it to warm water and let it do it's thing, usually overnight. The next day if all the deposits haven't dropped I'll clean them off with a bit of kitchen roll, no pressure needed.

I will try it on the bottles. I might make a rinser, or just fill and leave overnight.

Thank you. It arrived safely and we have a winner!

The sodium percarbonate cleaned it up a treat. Might make a bucket full now.

I will have a Google and work out a proper dosage.

That's handy to know. Some of my remaining half gallon DJ's have like watermarks inside - from the look, it appears like it's cider that's been evaporated away. It doesn't clean off with alkaline type cleaners (with or without a bottle brush) but equally when I've sanitised them, then used for storage, there hasn't been an issue.

It's just a cosmetic thing really, but I'd be useful to know if it works.

Looks like time to hit the net a find a smallish amount to try........

Have you tried vinegar or citric acid - might work on that one.

I always like the fizzing, which is immediate and let's you know its working.

Because I've had them (the half gallon DJ's) for so long, I can only say "I think I have" (don't forget, because there was so many of them, that's why I took that big bunch up to Bob's for anyone who might want/need one that size)........

In any case, I don't mind the marks etc, but it would be nice if they were cosmetically clean looking pretty etc. So I'll get some and see (can't remember whether I tried StarSan either and that's an acid cleaner - will get some sodium percarbonate and do a side by side attempt I think) :D

If you can't find it cheap, or don't want to order it online you can use Vanish powder which is sodium percarbonate.

I used to use the wilko own brand stuff which is unperfumed, does the same job.

I have a bit of scotchbrite attached to a plastic rod, then I push it into the DJ and give it a twirl with my battery drill. Works quite well. I used plastic rod (10mm dia) so I don't chip the DJ mouth.

Just my 2d's worth

I tried that and it didn't. (Aldi brand).

I assumed the pure was stronger?

That's a good assumption. I would guess additional ingredients in there which may reduce the actual amount of SP by volume?
Or maybe not all Vanishes are created equal

No, but handy as hell to know.

I looked up some prices and thought it seemed a bit pricey (bet it would be cheap as chips if we could buy it by the container load - but that'd be a fucker to set up 😆👍)......

I wondered if there was a cheaper filler in use (say salt).

I know they do this with tablets, so why not anything else...

Just bought some 2Kg for £14.99 (inc delivery) off Amazon, not a lot in it, Maltmiller have an offer 1.5kg for £10:25, plus delivery, unless you spend a lot more for the free delivery.
Need to give the Brewzilla a good clean!
