Xmas Beer - New machine
Well I spent ALL yesterday in the garage doing my Xmas beer brewing. Maltmiller's St Austell Tribute Clone.
Now I have 50L of beer fermenting away.
I have a new boiler / machine that will do 80L max. The Brewzilla was only 27, or 1.4 Corny Kegs worth which was annoying!
At least I can now brew 1,2,3 or 4 corny kegs worth at a time. 50L will end up as 2 x Corny Kegs and some bottled for my son who doesn't live with us.
I didn't get to finish cleaning down last night, as it is now such a huge task. Namely its all the hops etc that's a mess to clean out.
As I'm in the garage, I am using my rainwater soakaway, so I wont be putting any chemicals, or physical stuff down the sink, just plain water or filtered beer trub. I carry the stuff up to the kitchen drain and dispose of it that way.
OK whilst I may not be an ecowarrior, I'm not going to poison the soil either.
Pretty happy with yesterdays efforts, just need to discover the best way to clean up all the mess!
I will be using my Ispindel Tilt Hydrometers, as its all in the garage down the garden, and I don't want to be going out in the cold n rain just to see how its getting alone. I am using the Grainfather app, and should be able to see Temp, and SG in near real time as it reports every 15 mins. I can set it to do more reports, but it flattens the battery more quickly.
Basically it sleeps, wakes up every 15 mins, sends a few bytes of data and then goes back to sleep. It will be interesting to see how it goes.
Being retired, I thought I would have time to do everything, but that doesn't seem to be the case!
Anyway that's what I've been doing over the last few days.

Good work that man.
Day 1. Mash overnight. Boil and runaway. Let it chill on its own.
Day2. Next morning, check temps, pitch, wash up. Runaway.
But I warn you, it is a slippery slope, you will never want to do a brewday again.
Do a 3 day brew... Sooo easy.I thought I would have time to do everything, but that doesn't seem to be the case!

Re: Xmas Beer - New machine
Now cold Crashing @4c.
Ispindels are working well.
SG down from OG of 1038 to 1.005 @20c. (about right for this brew)
Noticed another drop this morning to 0.997, but think this is due to the temperature drop.
Will rack it off probably on Wednesday am, not sure how long to crash it.
At least it tastes OK albeit a little cloudy, but hope the Crashing will help clear it a bit.
Happy with the new set up so far.

Was on the first line of the post!
Maltmiller's St Austell Tribute Clone
https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product ... -pale-ale/
Not made this one before, but its a half decent beer, and its only £15 for a 40 pint grain kit, so not mega expensive.
Done 2 kits to give me approx 50L.
That's £0.375 per pint, not including the electricity, so probably around the 50p per pint mark, as I used £6.68 of leccy for the whole day including all the household things. Love my Smart Meter, as I can see and know how much I am spending.

Yes you did, missed that. That is a nice pint from memory, did a few in Padstow. Keep us posted how it goes.
I have just pitched a Ernest Summer ale, with crossmyloof nottingham yeast, let's see.

As a little "aside", I don't make beer as I don't have the space (or motivation).
But occasionally I find little bonuses to buy.............

Re: Xmas Beer - New machine
Well I'm not sure about reuse. The beer is good, my only irritation is the tap and vent. Neither are very good i.e. the last one of these I got to try had a much more conventional tap and vent.
Hence I'm presuming, not all mini-kegs are created equal.........

The beer boys seem to be onto refilling them, but I agree with your "presuming, not all mini-kegs are created equal"
