Thinking of selling up
Hi Guys
I’ve come to the stark realisation recently that I’m probably not going to be distilling anymore, it’s been over a year since I made some finished spirit and I have to say my relationship with alcohol has changed somewhat.
I still drink but to be perfectly honest, I don’t want to for health reasons, don’t worry I haven’t worn my liver out or anything serious, but I do track my sleep via an app on my Apple Watch, I can see that when I have a drink it really affects the quality of my sleep and by checking in the morning I can see the effects of even a little alcohol.
For those who don’t know I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes back in May 2020, I didn’t take the traditional advice offered by the NHS to manage the condition, because in my mind you only manage something if you want to keep it around!
Anyway long story short, by October 2020 I’d lost 2 stone and my diabetes was a thing of the past.
Or so I thought, I’ve recently had one of those continuous glucose monitors on for a couple of weeks and I can see that the numbers are heading in the wrong direction again, despite maintaining the weight loss for over two years.
So I’ve decided it’s probably best to sell my distillation gear, I’ll have to wde through how much I’ve got but it’s fair to say it’s a substantial amount, the centrepiece being a 4” stilldragon dash column on a 50lt boiler made from a brand new beer keg, also has a 3.8kw element with a phase angle power controller, the column has 4 x bubble plates and a 500mm section packed with SSP, also has the v2 deflagomator and full still dragon parrot kit.
I’d be interested to know if any of you fine people would be interested in becoming it’s new owner before I think about selling it elsewhere, I’m also going to throw in everything else I have, including an essentia filter, an air still (with Sputnik), basically everting distilling related which also includes a couple of other hand made copper columns.
I’m thinking £1500 for the job lot which has probably cost me double that to build over the years.
Let me know if anyone’s interested

I am very sorry to hear that you have decided to go down this route - although I do understand your reasons.
I hope you will still be a presence on the forums.
For anyone that is considering this - it is good equipment. I would seriously consider it if I was looking for some equipment.

Yeah, I will echo that. Don't become a stranger.
You have personally helped me to research and understand cholesterol, for the better. Thank you.
I have put word out about your wee still, I will let you know.

(Couldn’t find the ‘fingers crossed emoji’ so here is the ‘waxing gibbous moon’ emoji instead.)
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Hi Guys
I’m officially out of the game, sold the family silver (or stainless Steel in this case) to one of Mash’s mates.
Big thank you to Mash for putting me in contact with the buyer.
Happy stilling everyone and stay safe

Re: Thinking of selling up
Just had to look at any pics again (knowing that the kit was very good/nice hardware) with longing and regret that I didn't have the folding, to make an offer in the first place.
Big pat on the back for Mash being able to assist.......

Mash wasn't entirely altruistic here.
My mate now has a lovely still we can both play with.
And chaps... Make no mistake we are gonna need help very soon learning how to fly it.
Thank you anavrin. Don't be a stranger and you have managed to keep your still "in the family"
All the very best.

@Mash
It’s been a while and I’ve been wondering lately if your mate got to grips with the Still?
So I thought I’d pop up and bump this old thread, I do sometimes miss the old distillation game but I don’t really have time if I’m honest with myself, there were two corni keg, one full of rum strip and the other a neutral strip, interested to know if these ever got make into something drinkable?
Regards Marc

Re: Thinking of selling up
I have just read this whole thread again. I remember at the time, 'swmbo' would have castrated me for spending any money and we didn't have the space as we were downsizing. Wonderful kit, I am so envious of the new owner.
Well done sir. I am curious, we all have hobbies, spare time for them if we can manage them, what are you doing now?
Does anyone on this forum do Tai Chi? That is a separate topic to ask I think.

Marc,
The rum was lovely. Still got some somewhere.
It has gone on to be a used & loved still. Rum is still it's prefered operation and was recently being discussed in Ad Gefrin.
I am in the process of rehoming another still at the moment, this one could be going north

Re: Thinking of selling up
Good to know it’s being put to good use, I’ve been busy with work for quite a while now after I got a promotion.
As for hobbies I had a couple of weeks off in August last year and decided to build a PC flight simulator, at first with cheap, second hand parts but now 12 months later it’s got quite a bit fancier!
I did a 1 hour introductory flying lesson this weekend, I would love to get a private pilots license but it’s extremely expensive, probably around £16K, think I might have to sell off all the other gadgets I no longer use to fund it!
