Ok, so a thread that W.G. mentioned about using D&B but with rum?
So ATM, I've failed miserably at getting some D&B to try that, but I finished the 2.25 of Calypso rum I had mixed up, but I'd got some Co-op "fiery ginger ale" as that was the only "odd" one I found when looking for the D&B.
That went well with the rum, but it doesn't lose much flavour when mixed with neutral or vodka. Not one I'd go for frequently but certainly logged away for future use (will try again in the summer).
I still have 1, or possibly 2 of the Prestige brand "Cherimoya flavour Vodka" ( I believe it's discontinued now) which is brilliant when mixed with cream soda.
I also enjoy SS "Tennessee Whiskey" but mixed with ginger beer.
I don't have the time/patience to mix up lots of the lesser used essences into the sort of liqueurs/spirits to make "proper" cocktails, but in a previous life, I went to places that are known for Margarita, so will be looking up the essences to make them for the crimbo period - what with a lot of our crimbo stuff being quite "heavy" in character, so something that's "lighter" should help with that (and getting hammered quicker, means forgetting to eat so much of that heavy, seasonal fodder).......
Any other interesting or different mixers would be good to learn about........

I am a big fan of angostura bitters. Obviously to add to G&T but I found that with dark rum and coke it also adds a very pleasant twang.
I would caution it does have to be the genuin Angostura, in a bottle that looks like Worcester sauce, not the squat bottle with an eye dropper in the cap. The squat bottle 'stuff' has no where near the flavour potency and the flavour diminishes after it has been open for a time.
Now, odd I know but, ..... tinned peaches, nice with G&T.

Found an excellent one to go with dark rum.
Tango brand, Mango flavour. Found that in the local Co-op, trying it when the cola bottle was empty.
Dunno about you lot, but it's very much "to my taste"
