Charged twice for same transaction.?

Post by WelshGin »

I went into a supermarket today. And purchased groceries. I still have the receipt.

When I returned home with groceries, my wife said I had spent a lot. We then examined the Monso/Hyperjar bank card transactions, £24.54 deducted at 17.13, £24.54 deducted at 17.14. Receipt for 24 items through self checkout.

Anyone experienced this before?

I will be returning to my favourite supermarket tomorrow morning,

Never experienced this, but a casual google suggests it does happen from time to time. Check your account in the morning to make sure one transaction hasn't been rolled back then head to the supermarket's customer services. It sounds very much like you won't be the first to have experienced this - should be easily resolved.

This happened to me just a couple of hours ago at, I think, home bargains.

Bought 4 items that I had totted up to almost £15.

At the check-out was asked for £5.75. I smiled and thanked the young chap and hurried out of the shop as fast as I could hobble.
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

It doesn't surprise me at all that an IT bod is incapable of basic arithmetic without a bag of chips (calculator) in hand.

How does that relate to my initial conversation and question. Please stay on topic, thank you.

I went back to Aldi, they apologised for the error. If I had not prodded the button to obtain a receipt, a different matter, then I would have had to claim from my bank. So always ask for a receipt. Then you have 90 days to claim. The assistant and manager engaged in conversation. The instance of this is increasing due to self checkout, many times a week, because, supposedly, we the customer are not mindful of if the transaction has already been processed. If you go through a till with a till operator, they are mindful because it is time consuming to resolve, so they cancel or replicate/credit transactions to achieve goods paid for once and once only. Lesson learned. However, I know what happened at the time and I am still not sure how to not duplicate the sequence of events which led to the double charge. I will type again, obtain a receipt.

As the manager told me, it occurres more than customers are aware of because people do not generally balance their spend against their bank statement within a period when they can actually remember the purchase cost.

Moss, your lovely, I wish my Wife could achieve the same results as you.

So, I went back on Saturday, manager agreed to credit my account, my card back in the card reader.

Today, Monday, money back in my account.

If you use self checkout, ASK FOR AND RETAIN RECEIPT UNTIL YOU HAVE CHECKED YOUR DEBIT ACCOUNT!!!!!!!
