I ask this as I recently had a problem with a newly pitched fermenting wash.
119 washes and I had a concern.
Resolved, but it took some knowledge gained from experience. Are you/we all comfortable with what we are doing?
Our processes do not always proceed as we expect them to.
My experience of this forum is that we are all here to advise and help

Re: Anyone need advice?
Thank you for this thread Welshgin! I hope all is well inn your world.
Any help or advice offered on a stalled Cachaca wash? I set 2 buckets at the same time. One is still bubbling away nicely. The second was identical except pitched at a slightly higher temperature. This never took off. As the recipe has dead yeast along with the bakers yeast, should I just add another measure of the baker's yeast?
So confusing, I've made many now and this is the first problematic one.

Re: Anyone need advice?
I have only had 2 'stuck washes' both caused by too high a temperaure.
With the first nothing happened for 5 possibly 6 days, I did NOT keep opening the barrel. I swished it around every day nothing happened, temp had gone down to ambient about 23C but still did not start. I bought a 'Restart' yeast peck and followed instructions, about £2.50 from BrewGenie. It then worked perfectly OK and produced same alcohol yield as previous washes.
The second After 3 days I cooled it to about 19/21C in a bath with cold shower water, then put it on heat mat with the thermostat set at 20C, for the mat to come on at that temp. I agitated it extremely vigorously. After 36/48 hours it started to glug slowly, by 72 hours it was glugging as per previous washes. Alcohol yield as I would expect.
I now pay attention after I have pitched a new wash for 36/48 hours if something's wrong I take action.
As I said, I think both caused by too high a temperature.
I have discussed this with a local friend, he had a similar problem but we believe as he did not pitch it at high temp (22/23C) that he had contaminated the wash due to poor sterilisation. He left it for 7/8 days then put in a Restart pack. 2 days later the whole 25 litre bucket was glugging well but initially smelt odd. With a Restart yeast pack you have to make a 'Primer' for the yeast to start in of about 1-2 litres then add to the 25L bucket.
I hope the above info helps.

Re: Anyone need advice?
The there any members available who have a greater experience of using bakers yeast? As TJK71 (problem above) may benefit further from your advice rather than mine......

Re: Anyone need advice?
Thank you, I will give it a jolly good stirring and add more yeast I think. As the recipe uses dead yeast (and yeast is a cannable) I don't think it will hurt anything. The other bucket is still bubbling away very happily. It's weird lol xxx
