Annoying drip
No I'm not slagging anyone off, its my hosepipe connection. Normally I use stainless jubilee type clips to secure hose onto 15mm copper pipe. If you happen to be an elite athlete like myself it's very easy to crush the copper pipe when tightening up and then you get an annoying drip. If you don't tighten enough you get a drippy connection. So..what do others use for a 360 seal

I've decided to make a ' Clamptite' type tool. Not difficult to make and very useful. Full instructions online at my favourite place - YouTube. Check it out Mash

Here we go.

These things are very good. Install with carpenters pincers.
These and a bit of sealant. Bosh!
They also don't have sharp bits if you are handing.
But the don't come off easily... You will need a saw!

Re: Annoying drip
Thanks for that Mash, I looked at them and the single ear type. I'm liking the Clamptite tool best so far. It's going to be easy to make from a turnbuckle, and will come in handy. I've just finished helping my mate to replace a blown head gasket on his 6 cylinder diesel boat engine, a Clamptite would have been good for that with the number of hoses on that fecker. We lost a few jubilee clips in the bilge never to be seen again

Re: Annoying drip
I only mess around with hose fittings if they leak which isn't that often but jubilee type clips aren't ideal they do drip now and again. I didn't know clamptite tools existed till I did a search for hose clamps on YouTube. I like the look of them but I'm such a tight fisted git I can't contemplate the thought of shelling out for summat I can make from bits of scrap and basic hand tools. I'll have a look for parts in my ' Keep for later it might come in handy ' corner.

Re: Annoying drip
So I eventually got round to knocking a clamping tool up. There are quite a few types but I chose the turnbuckle route cos I had one in a drawer and it's fairly easy to convert. The handle is a made from thermoplastic. I put a rod through the socket and forced the softened plastic into the top of the socket, when the plastic hardens take the rod out, now the threaded bolt can go through the plastic handle.
I only had 2mm stainless to hand, 1.5mm would've been easier, 2mm is a bit on the stiff side. I kept the bottom turnbuckle thread to lock in the 3mm stainless cross piece. The brass bit just happened to have a 6mm thread so that's what the tensioning bar became. I had to buy a long 6mm bolt which hurt a little bit.

Re: Annoying drip
I kept the left hand thread and drilled out the right hand thread. It's easier for me to turn the handle clockwise cos I'm right handed. If you're a lefty keep the right hand thread

Re: Annoying drip
Now that is a good thing.
Hmm I think I see a tinkering coming on. I can probably find all the bits around the place.

Re: Annoying drip
OK I've thunk it through, if you're a lefty get a long bolt with a left hand thread

Alternatively, could you not drill out one end and pin it?
