Tomato trellises

Post by Mash »

I have this year planted some mini plum Vine tomatoes. Brilliant eating. Absolute buggers to keep in check.

Can anyone recommend a good trellis idea. What to use? They need 5ft.

I have been growing similar the last few years.
"Sun Cherry" and "Sun gold", and "The Sweetest Cherry".
They are all stonkingly good, and I am gorging upon them currently.
Excess go in the freezer, haven't bought tinned Toms for years.
Mine are singly planted in a 10 litre bucket with a sigle cane, that I tie them to.
That seems to work.
I have to grow them in the Poly tunnel up here, and Botrytis sets in every year, it has now started, and so I have maybe another month before they are all finished.

We grow Russian toms and the Italian plum as well. These are glorious but a complete wild child. I am tempted by pots so that I can move them.

I found some of the yellow ones were TOO sweet and did not really taste of tomato.
Best to date has been the Tigerella.

Clematis netting, good strong stuff. I have a roll going up the end wall and forming a ceiling in the greenhouse for my cucumbers.

ooo. Now you got me thinking. I did try a length of stock fencing on a couple of bamboo poles. TBH not very impressed.

I have a polytunnel, I wonder if lining the inside [one side] might be the answer. I have a few road stakes that were rattling about in my head too. The trouble with polytunnels is they are very fragile, and not easy to tie/attach things to.

Thanks .. Better keep thinking

I am guessing due to the PT construction?
I tie Bailer twine around the steel hoops to support peas, cucumbers and even runner beans.

How do you get red string round the hoop. My plastic is a tight fit?

I can poke string around the hoop at ground level in mine, and then slide it up to the desired hight.
