Re: Where I am today
I'm waiting for the taste differential with this one.
But, don't mind admitting that I may have been wrong.
I thought that DAP may have made no difference, maybe it does?
And maybe not in a good way.
Robert.

Re: Where I am today
i think, dap in itself don't change the flavour.
It's the the shite that's in DAP that makes the yeast happy and that changes the flavour.
I may be wrong, I often am but it never stopped me from running my mouth off as of yet

Re: Where I am today
LOL. The last line really got me.
I haven't got into the granular detail of what it is in DAP, but it was covered when I was in college that Wine producers were moving away from it because of the after taste. To be honest not 100% sure but I seem to recall it wasn't extra available nitrogen for the yeast but the something left over. So I will join you in running my mouth off

Re: Where I am today
Not too difficult to discover what is in in it,
Diammonium phosphate is one of a series of water-soluble ammonium phosphate salts that can be produced when ammonia reacts with phosphoric acid. Wikipedia
Formula: (NH4)2HPO4
Molar mass: 132.06 g/mol
Solubility in water: 57.5 g/100 mL (10 °C); 106.7 g/100 mL (100 °C)
Solubility: insoluble in alcohol, acetone and liquid ammonia
NFPA 704 (fire diamond): 0 2 1
Melting point: 155 °C (311 °F; 428 K) decomposes

Re: Where I am today
At risk of stating the obvious, the problem with dap and other "strong" nutrients is the lack of balance.
We either go easy on the sugar and chemicals are left over or we go big on the sugar and stress the poor yeasties.
It's debatably not unlike bodybuilding and natural hormones versus artificial steroids.

Re: Where I am today
if dap is akin to steroids for yeast , is it the "bitch tits" that is the difference in the flavour

Re: Where I am today
Hum? sorlrite if you like cornflakes, but I don't. Could never get past the "soggy" stage once the milk (or whatever) has been on the flakes for a while.
But I'm willing to try this with Shredded, or if I can still get them, Golden or Cinnamon Grahams.........
Or perhaps they still do Golden Nuggets ?...........

Re: Where I am today
See, I never got rice krispies either. Sure, dry is fine, but both plain or cocopops have to be eaten at the rate of a horde of scabby locusts to prevent them going soggy too.
And the chocolatey milk isn't anything like a decent shake (Frijj)..........
So it's just as easy to have a savoury breakie (a toasted sandwich of Camenbert, cripy griddled bacon and red cabbage sauerkraut this morning - a tad "yum, bleedin' yum" IMO)..........

Because you can?
If you don't have the mindset, you may not relish the thought or experience.
To my mind, two drinks made for each other.
And saves drinking sissy shorts.
