The watch forum I use has a 10 percent fund raiser donation applied to every item sold in the for sale section. I've sold a lot of turnings on it and happy to donate every time. They sell everything on there too, not just forum related stuff.

When we get the numbers up I'll make a nice turned and airbrushed piece and stick it up here for auction. All proceeds to the forum.

Mash wrote: Sat Mar 02, 2019 7:42 am I for one, nearly forgot about this.

Setting up this site has taken a significant amount of time & it is not without cost.

I think the guys have done an excellent job getting us up and running again. And I would like to secure it for the future.

We don't talk about money. So I won't mention that I've donated £20 towards the running costs. Which got me thinking?

How do members think we ought to donate - annually? As and when? Perhaps a subscription something? or should we seek sponsorship? We need to cover the bills went they arrive.

Because this was an active thread today,I have given this some more thought.
I don't believe thay we have any pressing need for cash, come next February, we may have.
I personally do not want sponsorship, nor an outside agenda/influence/adverts.

As and when may be the course to follow.

If I am informed that we need X pounds of donations come next February, I will step up, and fund any shortfall.
Maybe just the once, maybe because I feel able at this time.
I would like to think that others may make a modest donation, as they can afford, at the same time.
Due to a helpful Teckie guy pushing the big buttons,I believe that we are looking at running costs of less than £250-£350 this, first year.
Of course, if we become bigger, that cost may grow.

I am just really happy to see that we brought the old site to a new home, and welcomed some new members.
Here, members can talk,& share possibly daft ideas.
Nuthin' wrong with that!
We are currently a small community, I know some of you better than my neighbours :)

Ladies & Gents,
I have just been going over the books after our change of hosting provider - I have been quite busy of late.

We have been able to cover the cost of this from our existing donation reserve, and all the admin team thank you for these gifts. We award a special rank to those who donate as a way of saying thanks. On occasion, our kind benefactors use a different email address to that registered and without this address or username, I simply can't identify said benefactor, thus can't award special rank.

I understand the wish to keep our chosen pastime out of the public domain, and for one, I could well do without some nosey git asking me about what I do.

If you have donated and have no special rank - this is why. Let me know who you are and I'll fix it.

Otherwise, thank you all. It keeps us online.

Thanks to all

Moss

It does indeed mate.
If all give a little, it becomes a lot.
TBH, I see the act of donating something, if you are able, as being important.
For one thing, it shows that you care, in this crass, commercial world.

LOOK AT THIS SITE!
Do you see adverts and pop ups and other distracting tailor made shite?
The only rubbish here, we produce ourselves.
And I confess to a lot of that!

Seriously, this site is right where I hoped that it would be when it was started around this time last year.
From here I hope that it continues to be a source of knowledge, and possibly a safety blanket, for members and casual guests alike.
To me it already feels like a community, and to some of our guests, can I suggest that you actually take the plunge and join us?
We don't bite.

OK, I'll put my soapbox away.
Happy to see you all here, members and guests alike.

Robert.

The very fact that someone chooses to donate, in this current age of 'free' internet information is sweet.
This site would not exist without donations.
The MGMT are all donors.
The only thing taken from here is the shared information that we all provide.
Keep sharing and big yourselves up!

Not sure where gaz is finding his numbers, but he has stuff on his mind right now.
Thanks Welshguy, you have your feet properly under the table now.
I had an email from a close friend today.
They have decided not to send xmas cards this year, but to make a lump sum charity donation with the cash that they would have spent.
Who can fault that way of thinking?

gaz, my friend, are you averaging the numbers of usual/constant posters?
Moss assures me that we are funded for a-while.
But donations are obviously welcome, anytime that someone has a few more £ in the bank than they need.
Wickipedia tapped me up for another donation last night,
I gave a tenner, plus the 40p tax, simply because I think it is worthwhile.
In these days of 'free' information, I like to think that some of it is worthwhile.

Well if you need some more spenders, gimme a shout. There's another forum/site I donate to annual as I figure it's worth the money as well. Just that we don't seem to have the option for that here, so ask and ye shall get, as it's also definitely worth it IMO 😁👍
