Twisted pleasures....

Post by Easydrinker »

Today I have done the normal stuff.
Finished with some good beers, a cracking gig in Edinboro, some nice whisky, (my own).
All topped off with a midnight slug hunt.
With head torch and sharp knife, I patrolled the polytunnel and dispatched several ounces of the feckers.
My plants thank me, I thank me.
Is it wrong to feel so good?

And I am just back from tonights foray.
The thought occurred,- "what do vegetarians think about killing slugs"?
Should they be humanely trapped and set free in a forest somewhere?
I admit to never giving this any thought in my long ago, brief flirt with veganism.

Slugs do have feelings as well ED, hug a slug today, could
be your mantra. You could line them up, give them names,
buy them Birthday Preezies and have jelly and Ice Cream
for Tea.

Why don't you leave some of whats left in the bottom of your fermenter in a dish for the slugs and snails Rob? At least they would die happy , and Mash's chickens would go mental for them :D

I'm vegetarian. I have no problem with killing slugs, I just don't eat them.

Whatever you do, don't eat them raw. There was an Australian guy a few years back who wound up with meningitis after eating raw slugs for a dare.

Licking drunk toads of whatever type has hallucinogens in would need a whole new forum.

TBH, although not tried nyself, I suspect they may taste the same, slugs possibly tougher due to having no shell.
When I lived in Kent I used to gather large snails and leave them with something not poisonous to me, to eat for a week before processing.
Scottish snails are small, hard and tough.
They have to be, they are the favoured food of the wild Haggis. :)

I have always wanted to try a wild one but have never been fast enough to catch.

Factory farmed ones remind me of what is known in my parts as vegetable roll. The supermarket stuff does not have enough texture, rather like black or white pudding?

How do you know a Haggis is wild?
What makes 'em wild?
How fast are they?
I don't know about licking Toads, but
have kissed a few and actually married
to one!

If you think you have trapped a tame Haggis, poke it with a stick.
Than generally makes then pretty wild.
