Re: Kale recipe
I wouldn't worry mate.
Kale and cabbagey things have a smell.
As long as it bubbles, the yeast is happy.
And when it stops and your hydrometer reads less than 1.000, run it.
Robert.

Re: Kale recipe
Tomato Paste Wash.
25ltr recipe;-
180g red split lentils (could be green etc)
70g Tomato Paste (I use the one in the squeeze tube)
Put in a jug and pour on a litre boiling water and stir.
Dissolve 5kg Sugar in warm water in your fermenter.
Add your tom & Lentil mixture.
Stir well to get air in.
Top up to 25ltr at 30c.
Add 50g bread yeast, lid on wait for 20mins, then stir in
yeast gently.
Seal and Airlock.
A vigorous ferment will start within a day and finish in
about 2 weeks.
Test and let it clear a bit. You know the rest.
I have three finished ready to still now.
Top tip temp, temp, temp Keep at 28-30c or near if poss.
This will aid your ferment and get you there quicker.

Everyone starts somewhere, and learns what they like and what works for them.
My TPW is slightly different to gaza's, but close enough not to argue.
Robert.

Re: Kale recipe
Mash is your man on this mate. The water distiller runs hot, so you have to turn
it down or slow it, but you need to keep the fan on the condenser working.
I have an Airstill which is 350w yours is 500+ I think.
When you have read up on that here, then use the Airstill guide about stripping
and Spirit running . Collecting heads hearts and tails. We will guide and help
you find your feet. You are about to start on an amazing journey.

Re: Kale recipe
From what I can make out you need a power controller on the heater and put a plug on the fan lead.
Or if you have the dosh buy an Airstill. I use mine regular, make my own Gin in it.
I have 3 other stills which fit on a T500 boiler but that is further down the road for you.

Re: Kale recipe
OK Marv go onto the Airstill section and read second topic, you never buy best Airstill etc...
That will gen you on what to do and I bought a new controller on the Bay last month for £14
so it won't cost to much and they come in handy anyway.
Then go to page 2 on same section at the bottom of page Airstill do's and don'ts. Read and
read again anyone uses an Airstill this is their Bible.
Have fun...

Please read this thread and the pdf. It is all plug in, but seriously read it before you start.
You are boiling alcohol indoors. Would you boil petrol indoors without a good read??
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203026688326 are the power controllers I use.

Here's a thought... You are good hand Gaza. Could you try a water distiller and compare? Your observations would be really good!gaza the instructor wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 10:40 pm Or if you have the dosh buy an Airstill. I use mine regular, make my own Gin in it.

Re: Kale recipe
This could be the answer Mash. Its cheap enough, less than half the price of an Airstill
and adjustable voltage.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4L-Alcohol-W ... %3A2334524
Right that was a bit of a shock. Airstills are cheap, brand new £140 or stainless water thingys are £70. I would have the real deal.

Re: Kale recipe
Gaza, it’s crap. (No offence intended) The description indicates it has a temperature controller that has been factory fitted. You would not even be able to adjust the power using an external controller as it would affect the built in electrics. It did give me an idea though for my own modified turbo still. Adjustable shut off based on the vapour temp. Ideal for stripping runs if you don’t use a freezer, set to say 98 degrees (works out at 10% ABV in the distillate on my system) silicone tube to direct the flow to a demijohn and let it run. It should stop producing at 10% and cool itself till I am ready to empty the boiler. I could set a second trip at 100 degrees boiler temp in case the vapour sensor failed. If my controller fails the thermal trip will still operate at 117 degrees. Product would be ruined though if that needed to shut it down.
