So happy that you are happy mate.
May it fulfill all of your expectations.
I am only a little jealous, but know the corrective steps to take!
Robert.

Re: Chrimbo is coming....
Morning Ele.... I looked around the net, China, EU, and for me price-wise Russia was a big surprise. Even with the P&P which at first I thought feck it, but when I worked out the exchange rate, as you pay in USD it doesn't work out the bad.Elecrafter wrote: Sat Oct 02, 2021 11:29 pm Ice... My order came out at 453USD /£330 delivered by DHL, no problems at all, I ordered & paid they emailed me to say they were making a batch of the 40litre boilers. You can track your order, then DHL take over and it took about 3 weeks or so, I'm chuffed to feck with it.
Link to site...https://doctor-gradus.com/catalog/seriy ... rime_d340/
You choose the boiler..I went for the 40litre because my column is so tall and the 40l, the height with the lid 460mm/ 18,1 inch. When my column is all clamped up the top is within 2" of the ceiling of the garage @...(8' 6").
The boiler is 163USD /£120 with the tap, then you choose what lid you need, then what heater fitting. Just click the box and it all comes together.
Are you looking/thinking about one??

Re: Chrimbo is coming....
Ice,
I'm thinking of a 100L boiler. It cost me £70 just to get the welding done last time on my 50L job. But it was a proper fabrication company. Interestingly they wanted cash no receipt, even before I asked! I strongly suspect they knew exactly what I was building and distanced themselves!
I am really not sure what to do.
I've just built a fermenting fridge (my duff 37 yr old freezer) and it takes 2x 60L barrels, so a 100L boiler makes a bit more sense, or perhaps I should go 120L
I'm in no hurry, and the 50L one works fine with my 5 plate column and gives me good results. Currently I am trying to lay down about a years worth of spirit, so that I can age it before drinking it. I suppose then I could go back to the 50L job.
Hmm.. Its £450 for a 120L one on wheels with a 4" coned lid.
Really not sure what to do!

I'm trying to do the same and get ahead of 25litre runs, it takes so much time mixing a mash, a strip run, the spirit run.Elecrafter wrote: Sun Oct 03, 2021 11:23 am Ice,

Hmm.
Some might know what's coming now. My 25 litre run looks something like this...
Mixing.. 30m
Strip run.. 5m
Thaw.. 15m
Spirit run.. 15 mins and run away.
Come back later to cut and bottle.

I thought it was me ED, I can't make head nor tails of the timings. I know Mash you're an avid advocate of jack freezing distillation, it's never crossed my mind for me, in fact of all the drink forums that I visit/post in I've never seen or read anything, I'm not saying it's not there.Easydrinker wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 1:07 am OK. mate.

A quick Google on the subject gives the following...."The danger of freeze distillation of alcoholic beverages is that unlike heat distillation, where impurities can be separated from the finished product, freeze distillation does not remove them".... I accept that it's your way of doing it and mean no disrespect to you Mash.
I'm off to the garage this very morn to strip the longest wash I've ever had, the jaggery/GS wash looks like it's now finished..

Re: Chrimbo is coming....
Well done Ice. I thought Robert would have got it too.
To allay your concerns I 'freeze strip' and then spirit run. I find it soo much quicker and easier, but if you enjoy running the still and listening to some good tunes it isn't for you.
The twin tub is exactly what it says. Two air stills side by side. 9 litres which is most of what you get after thawing. These timings are real.

I didn't think the bubble plate sections should be flooded. It needs to bubble and recycle the water downwards so it increases the purity of the acohol.Icefever wrote: Fri Oct 01, 2021 8:12 am I was happy with the run yesterday, having 3kw to play with, was a big difference from the 2kw in the T5. The bubble ball filled and sat like that until near the end.

In this photo, you can see the start of full reflux...

Or at least that's how I thought it should be.
Perhaps a little bit too much power? Sounds like it needs a little experimentation to find the optimum settings.
Just my 2d's worth.

Re: Chrimbo is coming....
Yes you do get the same yield. Its worth a £50 preowned freezer..... That would also double a fermentation cabinet??Icefever wrote: Tue Oct 05, 2021 9:57 am
It would cut down the stripping time fair play, do you get the same amount of strip out of a 25-litre wash, against a 25-litre freeze???
Ice.
2 washes would then fit in a T500.

Unless that is just the look at time and swap collecting vessels?

That's not what I thought it was.
Its not a controller.. That's a sleeve to allow you to attach a prove into the line.
IMO that's what the little green washers are for.

Re: Chrimbo is coming....
Yes, it's just to show you the temp of the water, I would fit it to the outlet of the RC to monitor the water coming off the RC. The green grommets go into the section so you can slide in a probe if you don't need a probe you pop in the solid one. As I said I have enough bits & bobs in the junk box to make one.....in fact I may have a go tomorrow while I'm running the still, not sure whether to strip a sugar wash, or spirit run on the pot with the Jaggery wash strip I did ???Mash wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 11:50 am That's not what I thought it was.

I was hoping it was a controler, its not worth the effort to make one just to read the water temp, will carry on taping the temp probe to the copper outlet pipe.It works and is cheap
